New Super 7 Minerals Are In!

One of the most well-loved minerals here at SIGIL is the Super Seven/Super 7 (aka. Melody Stone). I have acquired 3 hard-to-come-by Super Seven stones with the gorgeous layering I look for (clear-opaque layer along the outer edge). I will be turning these three gorgeous pieces into pendants over the next few weeks and releasing them on sigil-studio.com. Stay tuned!

Hrafna-Flóki’s 3 Ravens – The Iceland Collection

Hrafna-Flóki promo

A closer look at the third category in the new SIGIL Iceland Collection launching tomorrow: Hrafna-Flóki. It is fabled that when the Norseman Flóki sailed from Norway to Iceland in the 9th century, he took with him three ravens to help guide him. Through this, he earned his nickname Hrafna-Flóki, or “Raven Flóki”. Flóki set the ravens free near the Faroe Islands, halfway between Norway and Iceland. The first raven flew to the Faroe Islands without returning. The second flew close to the ship before returning with no news. The third, however, flew ahead of Flóki’s ship, guiding it all the way to Iceland.

The 3 black kyanite pendants in the Iceland Collection are symbolic pieces to commemorate the ravens’ important role in Hrafna-Flóki’s first journey to Iceland. Each piece resembles one of Hrafna-Flóki’s ravens’ wings. Kyanite is reputed to have properties as a strong “connector” mineral for transmission of healing energy for the wearer and in bridging gaps in communication with others. It is a grounding mineral.

The new Iceland Collection launches tomorrow morning at 10:00am PST on the SIGIL website. Each of the 13 pieces are carefully curated and follow the six categories listed below. Each tell a story of the rugged landscape and folklore. Shop the Collection by clicking here.

Thanks for following along!

Iceland Collection – Two Days Away!!

Hverir Promo 04

I am so thrilled for the launch of the Iceland Collection, only two days from today! Out of the thirteen pieces and six categories (listed in the prior post) I honestly think the Smokey Quartz # 1 (pictured above) might be my absolute favorite. I keep changing my mind as I look through them, but keep coming back to this one.

The Hverir region in Northern Iceland may be also the most outer worldly location I’ve visited on the island. This is why I picked it as the inspiration for the three smokey quartz pieces in the collection:

A closer look at the second category in the new SIGIL Iceland Collection: Hverir Geothermal Area.

North Iceland has notable geothermal areas in and around Lake Myvatn, the most dramatic being Hverir Geothermal Area with Namafjall mountain looming in the distance. The landscape is marked with mudpots, steam vents and fumaroles (an opening in the planet’s crust) that pump steam in heavy, warm clouds of steam and gas from the earth. Here, the colors range from light gray to muddy beige with a backdrop of smokey brown-gray steam.

This surreal landscape is embodied in the Smokey Quartz clusters of the SIGIL Iceland Collection. Each beautiful piece has its own characteristics, from double terminations to small twins partially emerged from the primary piece. Smokey quartz is associated with grounding and protection properties, including the neutralization of negative energies and detoxification.

Join me on Sat, April 21st at 10:00am PST at sigil-studio.com for the grand launch and find your personal favorite.

Fall Is Here! – Updates & News

Now that we are firmly in Fall, and the leaves have been changing for a few weeks now, I feel its time to reflect on where we are and the road ahead (to Winter!) Yes, Winter is coming and our little engines are turning quickly as designs are being worked on for the new “Tribe” Women’s Outerwear collection. If you recall, this Summer I introduced a “teaser” for this new SIGIL campaign. While the life delays have slightly pushed back the calendar on the release, you may expect to see this fabulous collection released early next year in time to wear before the birds sing.

As for this glorious Fall season, you can expect to see more focus on worn leather jewelry and accessories with mineral adornments. At time of print, I have a leather double wrap cuff with a quartz crystal crown waiting for a new home in our online store. Watch for updates in the following week and throughout November as the Etsy store begins to stock with more. If you’re in Seattle, stop by El Corazon this Sunday for the second to last Mourning Market where I’ll be vending with Jason Soles.

Finally, in celebration of October and the 2-year anniversary of SIGIL, any purchases this month come with a vial of Icelandic Volcanic Black Sand, while supplies last, hand-gathered from the black sand beach in Vik, Iceland. It’s our way of saying thank you for all your support!

Last of the Summer Wine

Thank you to everyone who came to West Elm this past Saturday in Seattle. It was a great turnout and beautiful weather to boot! As a result, I am nearly sold out on leather cuffs and appreciated hearing the feedback on the brand-new leather notebook cover.

The SIGIL studio is currently in full restock mode in prep for Fall and we will be taking a short break in September to travel to Iceland for some much-needed inspiration and travel time. Upon my return I will be gearing up for the HP Lovecraft film festival taking place in Portland, OR in early October. If you live in the Northwest I highly recommend attending.

Speaking of travel, look out for another new addition to the SIGIL family specifically to house and protect your passport…

As we look to Fall, expect some exciting updates including production of the long awaited tote bag.

Until then…

The Doctor Is In…

Prototype of the newest SIGIL family member is complete, making this a great start to the week in the Studio. I am very excited to introduce to you the SIGIL “Doctor’s Bag”. The Doctor is a slimmer, longer yet compact lined purse for those of us who prefer a more petite bag with a big personality.

While details are worked over, look for more updates as this style is readied for availability next month.

Happy Belated Solstice

It’s been a very long time since my last blog post. We’ve changed seasons, Solstice has come and gone, yet here in Seattle, the summer has been blissfully cool so far (great for working in the studio!) Creating is the excuse for not blogging, and I’m stubbornly sticking to it.

Some developments are on the not-so-faint horizon, most notably the newest SIGIL campaign, TRIBE. I am keeping the details unwraps for the moment, but I’m finalizing three key pieces that will drive this exciting collection. Expect a release date this Winter and more news as this exciting project unveils. This is by far the largest endeavor for SIGIL this past two years, and I feel so much has been leading up to this moment. Stay tuned!

I have dropped prices of a few of the original SIGIL carry-all pouches and cinch sacks featuring Pendleton wool on the Etsy site. This will mostly affect the previous season plaid, as most of these are no longer available. Eventually the wool and leather pouches will be kept to 2-3 colors to make room for newer SIGIL styles, so get them at this new lower price while still available.

Lastly, a brand new SIGIL bag is being sampled as I write this that will ready to release by next week at the very latest.

Thank you for joining us and watch this space for summer developments!

Best,

Spring ’16 SIGIL Updates

Some updates for Spring ’16!

SIGIL will be expanding the line to bring you wearable art.. Perfect for warmer days and lighter evenings..

I will also be creating a line of one-off versions of existing designs, using fabric and hide combinations that are very limited in quantity. A fun, experimental twist to existing styles.

Look for these and more developments in March and April!IMG_4331

Spring Colors vs Holding onto the Dark

Burgundy leather messenger

There is a real struggle for any woman of the dark when warmer days arrive and the time comes to not only lighten ones wardrobe in fiber count, but decide whether to lighten up in color too. Fortunately, black summer dresses are a safe option, but in the process of creating accessories, as winter sheds its heavy coat, I’m noticing a desire to experiment with lighter shades while adopting the challenge of maintaining brand identity. Can this be done?

SpringColors

The key to this, as with any brand, is allowing the stretching of ones’ wings with a little experimentation and room to breathe new life into an established framework to prevent stagnation. SIGIL is a new brand, but even new designs need freshening throughout the year.

True to the inspiration of SIGIL, I concluded a turning of the soil builds strength and freshening up is therefore in the works. The key is pace and a steady progression is the recipe.

Check out the Etsy store for new, lighter shades as the world slowly wakes up and sheds its outer layer. 2016 SIGIL has many bold plans in the horizon, but it’s time to ease into these ideas by taking “bold” tiny steps away from the dark.
